Prof. Wanjiku Kabira is a distinguished academic and the Hub Leader for the Women Economic Empowerment Hub at the University of Nairobi, advocating for women’s economic rights and opportunities in procurement and beyond. Wanjiku Kabira is a Kenyan educator and author.

She is an associate professor of literature and and a director of African Women‘s Studies Centre (AWSC) at the University of Nairobi. Kibara attained her Bachelor of Arts degree in literature from University of Nairobi in 1978. She received a Master of Arts in literature from the University of Wisconsin in the United States. Kabira obtained a Doctor of Philosophy degree in literature from University of Nairobi.

Wanjiku Kabira is a Kenyan educator and author. She is an associate professor of literature and and a director of African Women‘s Studies Centre (AWSC) at the University of Nairobi.

Wanjiku Kabira was a director of the collaborative center for gender and development from 1995 to 2009. She held a vice-chair in the Kenya Constitutional Review Process from 2000 to 2005. Kabira was a chairperson of the Women Political Alliance from 2002 to 2011. She held a chair of the Department of Literature at the University of Nairobi.

Wanjiku has published widely in the field of oral literature and in gender/women studies. She has been a leader in Women’s Movement for many years during which she has consistently and passionately advocated for gender equality and equity in Kenya. She has mentored many women who have gone on to play critical roles in women’s empowerment and advancement. Her involvement with women issues inspired her in 2009 to spearhead the establishment of the African Women’s Studies Centre at the University of Nairobi, Kenya.

Kabira was also involved in the review process of the Constitution having served as a vice chair at the Constitution of Kenya Review Commission and a member of the Rapid Results Initiative Committee on sensitization of staff on the Constitution of Kenya in 2010.
